Mitey Staff //
Mitey Riders staff is committed to providing a safe and productive environment for our riders to be able to learn to ride a horse. Riding a horse produces a freedom that all of us have experienced and we want to provide that freedom for our riders, to see the world from a different point of view. Connecting with a horse changes you, and we want to see that happen in our riders’ lives. There are many tasks that go on behind the scenes and these are the people that make it happen!
As A Team
About Us //
Harry started Misty Meadows Mitey Riders over 25 years ago. His family’s love of horses, a philanthropic spirit, and a curiosity about life’s next ventures, triggered Harry to investigate therapeutic riding programs. After a successful insurance career, Harry returned to his alma mater, Penn State, to undergo training in therapeutic riding. He also served on PATH Intl.’s (previously named NARHA) national board as VP for 6 years.
Joy Simon, the program director of Mitey Riders for all 25+ years, was born and raised in Charlotte where she developed her background in education as well as veterinary and horsemanship. Her special bond with the riders and unending enthusiasm is apparent to all those around her. Joy continues to be the driving force in the creativity and therapeutic results of the Misty Meadows Mitey Riders program.
Lisa joined Mitey Riders as a volunteer in 2007 and has been committed to our mission ever since. She comes from a family of riders and enjoys passing on her love of horsemanship and riding to her students. She is continually inspired by the bond that grows between horse and rider and by our riders’ many accomplishments!
Pam has spent many years working with Mitey Riders, doing everything from coordinating volunteers to organizing the office. She has enjoyed, so much, the opportunities that she has had to meet and build relationships with our volunteers, riders and their families. When she is not on the farm, she loves spending time with her husband Lou, her sweet rescued greyhound Ginger, and her daughters Anna (husband Robby), Katie, and Stephanie!
Morgan has spent her life with horses and has a passion for forming the relationship between person and horse. She has a wonderful husband Taylor and a daughter Rayme, with another little one on the way. She enjoys photography and gardening when she isn’t at the farm!
Susan has had a passion for horses since she was 9 years old, when she first began riding. She has formal education and training in Child Development and Counseling. Susan aligned her personal and professional passions when she began teaching at Mitey Riders. She uses her skill as a Certified Saddle Fitter to make sure our horses are well equipped and comfortable doing their job at Mitey Riders!
Stephanie has been a horse girl at heart for many years. She has shown in the hunter ring and actually leased her beautiful mare Laika to us for the Mitey Rider program in years past. She truly enjoys the opportunity to be able to help provide the joy of riding horses to children who may not have that oopportunity otherwise.
Wendy has always had a passion for horses, especially since she owned her sweet pony Apple Jack when she was 7 years old. Her daughters Katie and Lilly both have that same fondness for horses, while her husband prefers riding things with two wheels! She truly enjoys seeing the relationship between our riders and their equine partners and she loves to see the passion of the instructors and the heart of our horses as they do their jobs. She always leaves with a smile!
